LCHS Trap Team Regional Shoot/Qualified for State

The LCHS Shooting team attended the Tennessee SCTP (Scholastic Clay Target Program) Regional Shoot in Christiana, Tennessee on June 2nd  and has now qualified for the Tennessee SCTP State Championship Shoot.

For the second time this season, the team was faced with pouring rain and windy conditions during part of their time on the line.

Competition will only be suspended in the event of lighting but continues on during rain and wind.  As the weather changes throughout the day, some teams may have an advantage of more favorable shooting conditions than teams shooting later in the day.

Although challenging, the Varsity Squad posted a 433 out of 500 clays shot and the Junior Varsity shot 410 out of 500.

The top 5 Varsity individual scores were Bobby Benson (89 out of 100), Ben Threet (89), Jason Story (88), Chase Kobeck (87), and Austin Moore (85).  The top 5 Junior Varsity scores were Logan Cowheard (89), Jordan Haney (86), Tanner Clark (85), Connor Walters (83), and Kyle Smith (81).

The Varsity team placed 16 out of 28 teams from around Middle Tennessee and Junior Varsity placed 11th out of 16 teams.

Head Coach Greg Holt said, “I am very proud of how our team performed given such poor shooting conditions, we just can’t seem to get a break lately with the weather, but the good news is we had all 19 athletes attend the Regional shoot which means all 19 advance to the State Shoot and give the team the experience of shooting against high caliber teams from all across the state”.

The SCTP State Championship Shoot will be held at the Nashville Gun Club June 21st-22nd.
